High Street Kensington Facades Elevation

Our KHS project is made up of an NHS dentist topped by luxury flats situated on the bustling Kensington High Street.

The borough of Kensington and Chelsea has an abundance of private healthcare options but lacks NHS facilities. Our clients saw this this gap and intend to provide NHS dental services to the local community as well as improving the quality of the existing flats.

Existing

Kensington High Street has a rich history, from residential terraces in 1609 with their esteemed occupants to the addition of single-storey shop fronts in 1870 to make use of the busy high street. Our façade design pays homage to the original Georgian façade before it was brought forward whilst also improving aspects such as enlarging the windows and modernising the shop front. This consideration of the historic aesthetic of the building coupled with the contemporary needs of the occupants ensures a timeless design that will be fit for purpose for many years to come.

In 1980s the set-back facades have been brought forward to increase the internal footprint of the buildings. This expansion has left the property with an inefficient core and internal layout. This existing internal layout limited the natural daylight into the habitable spaces, creating rather gloomy flats that lacked natural ventilation. The reorganisation of the core and entrances allows for increased floor space at every level and well-lit living spaces with strong servicing strategy throughout. Our updated design also allows for the separation of the residential and commercial access and circulation throughout the building.
